{"id":4695,"date":"2011-04-12T09:47:13","date_gmt":"2011-04-12T16:47:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/defectiveyeti.com\/?p=4695"},"modified":"2011-04-12T15:24:00","modified_gmt":"2011-04-12T22:24:00","slug":"elsehwhere-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/defectiveyeti.com\/wordpress\/2011\/04\/12\/elsehwhere-me\/","title":{"rendered":"Elsewhere Me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi I like totally did some stuff.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I was on NPR talking about <a href='http:\/\/kuow.org\/program.php?id=23083'>the portrayal of autism in the media<\/a>, a follow-up to my &#8220;<a href='http:\/\/www.themorningnews.org\/archives\/op-ed\/autistic_trekdom.php'>Autistic Trekdom<\/a>&#8221; of last year. Several people have told me that the segment turned out well. I will take their word for it, as I find listening to myself on the radio to be an excruciating experience. I am doubly wary of this particular piece, because I spent most of my time in the studio floudering around aimlessly. (I pronounced the name &#8220;Abed&#8221; about 30 different ways, for instance.) If it is intelligible at all, that is due entirely to the editing prowess of my interviewer Jeanie Yandal.<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Speaking of The Morning News (we were, kinda&#8211;they ran that \u201cTrekdom\u201d essay, above), the Tournament of Books wrapped up last Monday. I, like all judges, read the two finalists, <em>Freedom<\/em> by Jonathan Franzen and <em>A Visit From The Goon Squad<\/em> by Jennifer Egan, and <a href='http:\/\/themorningnews.org\/tob\/'>voted for a winner<\/a>. Now, as part of my <a href='http:\/\/defectiveyeti.com\/2011\/01\/31\/2011-projects\/'>2011 Projects List<\/a>, I owe y\u2019all reviews of both novels.
