We are hilarious<\/p>\n<p>When we are not engaged in a specific task, such as getting dressed, or eating your watermelon come on eat it you love watermelon gum why would you not like actual watermelon eat it!, we are often just hanging out together, laughing most of the time. There is an hour window between his evening shower and his bedtime, which is ostensibly \u201cbook reading time\u201d, but usually winds up with me stoically intoning \u201cFrog and Toad Are Friends\u201d while feet are rubbed across my beard, or while my son slowly slides behind the cushion of the couch, giggling all the while.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not just his\u00a0joie de vivre\u00a0that leaves me in stitches, but his jokes. They are not sophisticated, but he really sells them. Halfway through \u201cSylvester and the Magic Pebble\u201d he\u2019ll suddenly cry \u201ctickle on your foot!\u201d and I\u2019ll tickle his foot, and then he\u2019ll yell \u201ctickle on your arm!\u201d and I\u2019ll tickle his arm, and then he\u2019ll yell \u201ctickle on your\u201d, and I\u2019ll watch him ponder his options for a moment while a smile creeps across his face, and he\u2019ll end with \u201cswimming pool!\u201d. And I\u2019ll yell \u201ctickle on your swimming pool? That doesn\u2019t even make sense?!\u201d And we\u2019ll both wind up laughing until we\u2019re short on breath.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s a great audience as well. If I say something unexpected, or in a funny voice, or even just make up a dumb song on the spot, it\u2019s a guaranteed laugh. No eye rolls, no grimaces, no \u201coh, dad\u201d, just straight up giggles. It\u2019s very gratifying.
