Speaking of talking politics with John Moe …
I’ll be on The Works again this evening — in Seattle you can catch it from 8:00 – 9:00 on 94.9 KUOW, the online stream should be posted to the website shortly thereafter. Update: It’s live.
This week we discuss political blogs and their influence on mainstream media. Here are the blogs we mention by name:
Right Leaning
Middle Of The Road
Left Leaning
And here are some articles on the subject.
- American Journalism Review, The Expanding Blogosphere
- Wired, Stars Of The Convention: Bloggers
- The Power And Politics Of Blogs (Long but well researched; pdf file
This is just the tip of the iceberg, though — there are plenty more. I also read The Washington Monthly, Wonkette, and the grandfather of all political blogs (even though it isn’t technically a blog itself), The Drudge Report.
If you live in Seattle and have a political blog (like my buddy Duane), feel free to mention it in the comments.
For left leaning I also like http://www.oliverwillis.com/
Very good coverage.
My buddy Matthew is the coolest blogger I know. Even if I knew other bloggers he would still be the coolest.
Lawyers, Guns and Money – http://www.lefarkins.blogspot.com/
Three bloggers in one.
I’m not sure Andrew Sullivan’s blog can be called “right leaning”.
I live in Seattle and blog at http://dorksdontrock.blogspot.com
Not a “Meet the Blog Press” kind of blog. More of a angry-underemployed-journalism-major-has-political-background-and-lots-of-time-at-work blog.
A friend of mine blogs at Grubb Street, a South Sound blog that covers Seattle and Washington politics with a local spin. It also does theatre and game reviews.
I’m sort of surprised there aren’t more local politics bloggers.
Andrew Sullivan *is* right-leaning– he’s a fiscal conservative and he was pro-war. It’s just that he and the GOP have totally diverged on the issue that seems to be his litmus test, gay marriage and other equality measures for gays.
So…support for the war and lower taxes make you “right leaning” no matter what other leftist beliefs you hold? Military and economy trump all? Well ok, I guess I can get behind that…but that doesn’t explain the little donkey graphic on the header of his website. :)
I’ve always thought of Sullivan as a balanced blogger…he rips both sides pretty much equally…pissing off left and right alike.
My pal Rhonda and I have been posting our left-leaning Seattleite hearts out since May 2003 over at Countdown to Election Day: 525 Reasons to Dump Bush
Jane,
What’s better, it’s only 36 days until International Talk Like a Pirate Day…!
Yarrrrrr, BillB,
Ahoy ye lubber! Dems or Pirates, either way they be takin’ yer money! Arrrr!
Sorry, it was too obvious… ;)
